Dr. Daniel Romo is visiting Dr. Andrea Fleig’s laboratory at the Queen’s Center for Biomedical Research.

Dr. Romo, who is Program Director of the multi-disciplinary team receiving an NIH IGNITE grant earlier this year, is visiting the research grant’s two local principal investigators, Dr. David Horgen, out of HPU, and Dr. Andrea Fleig, out of Queen’s. He will be at the two institutions from 12/01/2023 to 12/06/2023 and spent time providing lectures, discussing research, and meet the research teams in person. Dr. Romo is internationally known for his seminal work in synthetic chemistry. He is Schotts Professor of Chemistry and Co-Director of the Baylor Synthesis & Drug Lead Discovery Lab, Baylor University, Waco, Texas. At the heart of his research interests is the chemistry and biology of natural products, which is an exciting and enduring interdisciplinary area for discoveries in basic cell biology impacting human health. Natural products are unique and often structurally complex molecules that are designed to interact in highly specific ways with various cellular receptors and, due to protein homology, those found in humans.
